Toosie’s is named after my Mom. Toosie was her nickname based on an Italian word for mistake! Having lost my Mom to cancer at too early of an age, and her being the one who taught me how to cook, I thought it appropriate to name our Gluten Free line after her.
Growing up in an Italian family our world revolved around food. I was always surrounded by women and men who cooked. The entire family contributed to the meals and my godmother, Aunt Nancy was the baker of the family. I was the one who loved to cook and stood by my mother’s side learning all of our family recipes. Soon I was tossing Toosie’s notes and coming up with my own creations!
My Dad was no slouch in the kitchen either. He was in charge of soups and chilis on those cold winter nights. Dad’s Great Aunt Mary Rowe lived on a Bean Plantation in Knoxville, Tennessee and taught the local cooking classes. So we have had cooking genes on both sides of the family!
This love of food led me to my career as a chef and opening up two successful restaurants with my husband Jim.
At the age of 30 I developed multiple food allergies and intolerances. Determined not to be just satisfied with what I could eat or create I set out to develop Gluten Free foods and catered to my “allergic” clientele at the restaurants.
After much prompting from my loyal customers to makes Toosie’s available on a larger scale we sold our restaurant to concentrate on makings Toosie’s available to everyone.
Here at Toosie’s we have just started to bring to your home the gourmet, delicious, chef created products! We will always strive to bring you the best versions of our family recipes and give you endless ideas on how to create your Gluten Free environment without the sacrifice for wonderful and delicious tasting foods.
